What to Wear: We really encourage you to wear something Hawaiian - an aloha shirt for the men and a muumuu for the women (but I guess an aloha shirt for women is fine). If not, then please dress "smart casual." Look at this nice portrait I found! Click here for more inspiration. If in doubt, consider this to be a Hawaiian-themed reception more than anything else. Moustache optional.
Highlands is a wonderful little town tucked into the Jersey Shore. My grandparents lived there most their lives and I spent many summers there as a kid. My sister Annemarie bought their house and now lives there. We all feel a special connection to it.
Anyways, besides our party, there's lots to do once you're there. Visit the Twin Lights of Navesink for a wonderful view of the area or relax on the white beaches of Sandy Hook. I recommend both as they are only minutes apart!

Getting There:
***Be prepared for heavy traffic heading towards Highlands and the nearby beaches. If you're coming by bus or car, please add 45 minutes or more to your trip!***

Driving to Highlands will be your best bet. Renting a car and splitting it between 4 or 5 people will cost about the same as the bus. It'll take about 45 minutes to an hour from New York City, to give you an idea. Go here for directions from MapQuest.
Academy Bus Lines
Phone: 201-420-7000 or 732-291-1300
Academy runs a bus from Port Authority every two hours beginning at 8am until 10pm on Saturdays. It costs $9.75 one-way for adults and $4.85 for seniors. The trip will take approximately 1 hour and a half hours. Ask to be let off at Water Witch Ave. Cross the highway and walk down the hill for five minutes or so and you'll see the hall on the left behind a small park.

***If going by bus, please be sure to arrive well before the bus departs! There may be lots of beachgoers trying to get on the same bus.***
SeaStreak Ferry
Phone: 1-800-BOATRIDE (1-800-262-8743)
SeaStreak provides daily year-round ferry services from Highlands to Pier 11 Wall Street and East 34 Street. It's more expensive, but much faster and a beautiful ride across the harbor. It only takes 45 minutes from Wall Street. Get off at Conner's Ferry Landing. Call us for a pick-up or exit the parking lot left and take a nice walk down Shore Drive for about 10 minutes.

Fun & Games:
We plan to have a lot of fun at our reception. We're obviously going with the Hawaiian luau theme for starters, but we're also going to have games and raffles throughout the day. Each time you win a game, you'll be rewarded with a prize! There will be a prize for best Aloha outfit!
Wedding Gifts:
Naoko and I haven't registered for gifts anywhere. We want to move to a new apartment soon, so to buy appliances, bowls, etc. now when we don't know what we need seems wasteful. Besides, we pretty much have all we need when it comes to that sort of stuff. However, there are some really big ticket items that we could use some help with: moving costs (it's jaw dropping how much it will cost to find and move to a new place!), visiting Japan for Naoko's mother's birthday in October (Naoko hasn't been back to Japan for three years), and perhaps future costs like college tuition! If giving in this manner makes you feel uncomfortable in any way, consider that such is a strict Japanese tradition!
