Announcing the engagement of Peter Tierney and Naoko Takeda!
At 8:30 pm on January 2nd, 2005, I asked Naoko to marry me and she excitedly accepted!
As for exact details, I can share a few a bits! After all, most of you are family. ;o)
I bought the ring quite some time ago and had been searching for a perfect time to ask. It never seemed to have come and I am not the biggest fan of scripted scenarios - mostly because things always go wrong with me! So I waited and waited for an inspired moment to act upon. Finally, I decided to give myself a deadline: New Year's Eve.
New Year's Eve came and went with us spending a great time at a huge nerd.party, but without me proposing. Determined not to let the deadline get too far gone, I swore to myself I would ask before the weekend ended. With time running out on Sunday, my inspiration came at quite an unexpected moment.
So there we were, watching Shrek 2. Love and fairy tales - it's classic, right? I paused the movie to "go to the bathroom" and instead got the ring. I took it from the box and kept it in my hand - my nervous, sweaty hand! Naoko had no idea what was about to happen!
The movie ended happily ever after, of course, and I chose that moment to go for it. With Naoko lying next to me on the couch, it came out something like this:
Me: Nao-chan, you're my princess.
Naoko: And you're my ogre!
Me: Are you ready to live with me happily ever after?
Naoko: ::eyes widen, nods head silently::
Me: ::revealing ring in my hand:: Naochan, will you live with me happily ever after?
Naoko: ::streaming tears:: YES!
::moments later::
Naoko: Where'd you get that ring from???
Me: Magic!
And that's where we stand now. No date has been set yet, but it looks like next Winter or Spring might be best. Naoko's father requested us to wait until then. It also it quite probable we will be having the ceremony in Hawaii. This is necessary since Naoko's family won't be able to travel here to the States. Anyway, getting married there sounds nice to me!
This page will be updated with more info as it comes, I promise!
