The Walk to Cure Diabetes "Thank You" Page!

This is a little Web site put together to express my sincere gratitude for those of you who donated to this event.

On Sunday, October 3rd, 2004, Naoko and I were in New Jersey to support my niece Shannon by walking with her in the "Walk to Cure Diabetes," an event sponsored by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Joining us were thousands of other walkers, among them my immediate family: David, Luann, and Ryan; my Mom and Dad; and my sister Annemarie. The walk took place down on the Jersey Shore along the Seaside Heights Boardwalk.

We had to wake up early which alone shows my dedication to Shannon! The day was cold, windy, and overcast, but at least it didn't rain. The cold ocean breeze felt good actually and make for perfect walking weather. After a light breakfast of bagels, fruit, and coffee, we were entertained by cheerleaders as well as a little girl who rocked out on the mic. There were some mascots there, too - one from our local baseball team and Winnie the Pooh. Naoko was really excited!

At 10am, the walk began. It was a 3 mile walk along the shore. We walked by the amusements, the games, and stalls selling deep-fried oreos. I skipped those!

By noon, the whole event was over. We had a great time and it was definitely a success! I haven't seen a grand total yet, but I expect it to be somewhere around $80 million raised across the nation on that day. I, myself, was able to raise $290 thanks to my good friends! Once again, thank you all for supporting the fundraising drive as well as Shannon.

P.S. - Aha! But I am not the only one who wants to say "Thank You!" for your support! Click Shannon's picture to view a short video we took at the end of the event of her doing her best impersonation of a shy, 4-year-old. (2.1 MB Quicktime file)
