Welcome to TierneyNYC! The homepage of all the Tierneys living in the fine state of New York!
Recently "all the Tierneys" just increased by one! After lots of hard work, Naoko and Peter brought a little boy into the world! His name is Koga and he's awshum.
We tend to have some fun adventures. Not only do we travel on occassion, but Peter is an avid and outgoing nerd. This means lots of embarassing stories and photos! Amazingly, he plans to share them all with you!
If you'd like to, you can contact me by email using this link.

WE HAVE A SON!!!

Koga Jay Tierney

Weight: 9 lbs 3.6 oz
Length: 22 inches
Here's the first of many galleries to come!
But methinks I jumped to the end of the story! Would you like to hear it all? Well, since Koga's asleep, I just happen to have the time.
So in the summer of 2006, Naoko and I were planning to move out to Forest Hills in Queens. Just as we were about to sign a lease, we were tipped off to a big secret. We decided to stay one more year.
Come May 2007, a very good friend was being asked to leave his own place in Kensington, Brooklyn. They lived in a house with their landlord. The landlord wanted him to move out to make room for his increasingly larger family. However, the landlord offered him one of four apartments he was constructing. He asked my friend to find others to take the other three.
Naoko and I jumped at the place. It was a cheap, 3-bedroom with its own laundry!! (An NYCer's dream!) The landlord promised it would be ready for June at the latest. Two other friends took the other two. Nearby lived even more friends. It was going to be a real nerd.commune!
Now imagine the long wait, interspersed with the phrase "two more weeks" being promised every two weeks. June turned to July, July to August. Come August, the landlord asked for a security payment to "show we were serious." We gladly handed it over, but asked for a signed lease for Sept 1 in exchange. He signed away with a promise that it would be no problem.
September came and went, accompanied by the ubiquitous "two weeks" and a reminder that the landlord could be getting much more for the place. However, Naoko was LARGE with child and we were forced to leave our 7th floor abode. We moved in with my sister in Highlands, NJ with an assurance we couldn't possibly be there longer than a month.
Living there was nice, but November was fast approaching and we felt we had to do something asap. So we moved into a hotel in Queens and began looking for an entirely new place. After three days, we signed a lease and moved into a place in Kew Gardens.
It was HUGE and looked out over a beautiful wooded park. However, it turned out to be a nightmare! It was too close to a nearby parkway and the constant, zooming car sounds drove Naoko into a depression. The heat was always on and we couldn't turn it off. If we opened a window, the car noise was even louder. To make matters worse still, above us lived a guitar hero named Todd.
Todd liked to wake up at 5am and do some weight-lifting accompanied by rock music. Afterwards, he would get on the computer and listen to rock music. Later on, he practice playing rock music on his guitar and 4-foot amp. To relax, he'd go back to his room to listen to some calming rock music.
After repeatedly asking him to stop it, I received in return a note from his mom telling us to stop harassing them. Well, that drove me into a rare fury and by the end of the day, I had an agreement with our landlord that we could break the lease.
Three days later, we moved into the second floor of a house in Rego Park. It's sooo quiet here and the shopping is great! We're very happy here and our landlord is nice enough.
We moved in the day before Naoko's mom, Fujiko, came over from Tokyo. Noriyuki, Naoko's brother is staying with us too, as he was here since April studying English.
Then, what feels like days later, Naoko gave birth to Koga. He was two weeks overdue and the doctor felt he really had to come out. Although we wanted a medicine-free delivery, a large dose of Pitocin to induce labor meant Naoko had to have an epidural.
Two hours of pushing later, I saw the crown of Koga's head, but he wasn't advancing. The doctor pulled forth some forceps, gave Naoko an episiotomy, and pulled really hard! Our son had arrived! Two days later, we were on our way home.
Naoko was really torn up down below, however. She couldn't sit and was in constant pain. Everything was ten times swollen. But as the days progressed, she's been making a comeback. She can now sit for a little while and doesn't cry so much from the agony. Yay!
Understand now that I wrote this story instead of catching up on sleep. I hope you've read this far!

Wow! I think this is the quickest I've turned around some photos! The Walk for a Cure took place this past Sunday. To be honest, it wasn't as enjoyable as last year. Naoko was in Japan, Mom was suffering a sinus attack, Anne didn't come, and Dad had... um, let's just say his bowels were warring with each other.
To add to the happy time, it poured rain just as I feared. That didn't stop me, though! Nothing comes between me and my precious niece. I just hope the price isn't too steep! I felt sick since Sunday afternoon. I better not be sick for my trip to Japan!
Click here to see for yourself!
I also included a few photos of the traditional window village I put together for my mom.

Naoko's been gone for five weeks, taking a long break in Japan. I can't wait to got there next month! But before that, I am participating in this year's Walk-a-thon to support juvenile diabetes research. I hope it doesn't rain.

ALSO!!!Please check out this little image gallery of the time when my brother-in-law Noriyuki came to visit America. Naoko and I showed him all over NYC then took him to DC to teach him what it really means to be an American. (BTW, if you haven't been inside the Library of Congress, go now! I never went there before and I was really impressed!)

UPDATE - 07182006
The party's over and the thank yous are in the mail. Phew! We had a wonderful time - despite the rain - and we were amazed at the turnout! We are blessed to have such family and friends. For those of you who couldn't make it for whatever reason, you were missed.
On a sad note, however, I write this part. I made a big announcement at the party that Naoko was pregnant. Alas, it was not meant to be as Naoko had a miscarriage last week. We were really heart-broken, but we realize these things happen for good reasons. We promise we'll try again as soon as possible!
Not to end this update so miserably, I will tell you that Naoko and I will be travelling to Japan in October to celebrate Naoko's mom's 60th birthday party! That's a really big year over there, so it should be quite the spectacle. I look forward to wearing my ninja socks without embarrassment!

WE'RE MARRIED!
To celebrate, we're throwing an East Coast Reception for all of those who live around these here parts. You may, in fact, be here to find out more information as promised in the invitation. Well, just give me another few days or so to get my life back in order and then I'll whip up something special with all the trimmings.
Also, Nao and I are debating whether or not to post images and videos of the wedding before or after the East Coast Reception. You see, we are thinking of making a big show of it during the reception and if we offer it now, will that be spoiled?
Also, I've found a little photo album I made for my father some time ago, but never added to the site. Click here to see a long-ago holiday.

OMG! Naoko and I have the most amazing news to share with you all!
WE'RE HAVING A BABY!!!
Naoko's been feeling a bit nauseous lately, but we figured it was from the flu she had. So I took her to the doctor and he did some tests. We were both stunned when he told us the good news! Naoko cried a lot and so did I!
I guess this means we'll have to push forward the wedding date! The baby is due in October!
(Editor's Note 041406: This was totally last year's April Fool's joke. I feel a little guilty because we tricked so many of you!)
